What is JEE Main?
Joint Entrance Examination is the first stage of the exam conducted for admission in IIT.
Students appear in huge numbers (Around 20 lakh) as
- It qualifies students for JEE Advance (Exam to enter in IITs)
- It allows selected students to join NIT.
Nature of the Examination-
It is MCQ type examination having 90 questions, 30 of each subject Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.This is paper one compulsory for all students.Paper 2 is for students willing to join B.Arch.Both papers are of 3 hours.
In paper one each question has a weightage of 4 marks making it examination of total 360 marks.It is negative marking examination where one mark will be deducted on giving wrong answer.
Who conducts this examination & How many times a year?
It is well known that earlier CBSE used to conduct JEE Main but since 2019 a neutral commision started conducting this examination called NTA (National Test Agency),twice a year JANUARY & APRIL attempt.
Syllabus For JEE Main
JEE Main is conducted based on NCERT 11th & 12th syllabus of Physics,Chemistry and mathematics.Usually syllabus of both 11th and 12th has equal weightage of 50%.
Qualification & Admission Cutoff-
Average number of students appear for JEE Main is 16-18 lakh which goes on increasing every year.
The average qualification cutoff for general category is 90-92% where as for OBC it is 82-85%.How ever for admission in NIT or IIIT min 96%+ is expected for general category and 92%+ for OBC category students.
Who should appear for JEE Main
I suggest all the students willing to join engineering must prepare and apply for JEE Main as it is mandatory for IITs,NITs and IIITs and also other reputed engineering admission entrance exams like BITSAT,SRMJEE,VITEEE etc also can be attempted with the help of the same preparation.
